Position Title: Principal Communications Officer

Job Description:

Here’s a brand-new role to work across our Transport Service ensuring that we are engaging and listening to communities across our region.We have made ‘giving people a greater say’ one of our top priorities.  We are seeking a talented communications professional who will have the skills and experience to help us embed this approach across our Transport Service.

Responsibilities:

  • You’ll be responsible for communicating our plans clearly and ensuring that we engage fairly and inclusively with communities across our region.
    As part of the West of England Combined Authority, we have been successful in winning an unprecedented devolution of transport funding to the region.
  • As a result, over the next five years, we will see a large investment in transport schemes including public transport, walking, and cycling improvements. The transformation in our transport system is necessary to deliver our net-zero by 2030 target and to improve the health and wellbeing of our population.
  • You will need to be creative, well-organised, highly committed and enjoy the challenges of working to multiple priorities, whilst able to meet strict deadlines.

Requirements:

  • You will have excellent writing skills and ability to adapt copy for a range of audiences, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
  • This role offers the opportunity for blended working and the post-holder will be expected to spend part of their week working from home.
  • Office time will be mainly spent in our award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible on public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
  • Hot desking workspaces are also available in the Guildhall, Bath.
  • You will report direct to the Head of Transport Strategy and work across multiple teams, matrix managing communications officers in those teams, to deliver.
