Position Title: Tool Design Engineer

Job Description:

The Tool Design Engineer I role is accountable for leveraging practical hands-on experience to build tool designs to allow for developing products within the R&D pipeline to qualify for the manufacturing and scale up, taking the conceptual design a step closer to product launch.

Responsibilities:

  • Driving the delivery of assigned projects and workstreams of tool designs on time and in full, providing Senior Engineer roles with key technical input and support whilst working through effective self-management, ensuring project goals are met
  • Acting as a tool design specialist, maintaining rigorous control on the quality of design output to channel the design through the pipeline to manufacture, ensuring that assigned deliverables follow internal R&D processes and framework methodologies
  • Designing the tools and equipment using practical capabilities to support in the manufacture of developed products within the pipeline
  • Utilising design expertise to review and enact processes and policy to therefore deliver practical work in line with the regulatory guidelines and compliance, aligning with the wider organisation
  • Identifying areas for continuous improvements in our ways of working through the development of new procedures and/or design prototyping practices, promoting enhanced methods to support tools design team results
  • Supporting in the coaching and guidance of indirect team members in the design engineering processes and best practices, contributing to the improvement of overall team performance
  • Independently creating work plans to deliver against the priorities set by Senior Engineers and line managers to meet project timescales and delivery expectation.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience of performing engineering development techniques
  • Hands on experience in tool design, jigs and fixture design and manufacturing techniques
  • An understanding of technology development, and an ability to understand and analyse new ideas
  • Project management and budget management skills and experience would be beneficial
  • To have technical curiosity with problem solving skills
  • An understanding of regulation/compliance
  • Understanding of project timescales and how the role contributes to the broader R&D innovation pipeline
  • Able to work within cross-functional teams, liaising with key internal teams and external partnerships to ensure the most effective use of resource/expertise
  • Able to develop both individual and team technical capabilities
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external capabilities
  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks based on business need
  • Degree-educated in a STEM discipline or equivalent
  • Extensive industry experience is an advantage.
