Job Description:

Knowledge of relevant special enforcement and animal control ordinances. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of communication equipment and its operation. Knowledge of modern office administration and record management practices. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in operating standard office equipment. Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives calls from the general public and other agencies; routes complaints and requests for information to the appropriate personnel or agency; analyzes and interprets complaints and requests for service; explains ordinances; prioritizes animal control calls.
  • Provides assistance in regards to business licenses, animal control, solid waste, and other codes and ordinances; provides information regarding policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Manages and assigns work distribution of incoming calls for Special Enforcement and Animal Control Officers; relays complaint information to officers; provides information concerning nature and location of complaint, owner or licensing information, and complaint history.
  • Formats and types letters for property owners concerning legal proceedings; maintains logs and files of all complaints; establishes and maintains files for spay/neuter adoptions from Animal Resource Center; opens and sorts mail.
  • Performs data entry and on-line inquiries for officers; performs data entry of service requests, court summons, and rabies certificates.
  • Dispatches calls and maintains dispatch logs; determines call priority; monitors status of all officers in the field.
  •  Sells animal permits, guard dog collars, hobby kennel permits, and dangerous dog kits; makes daily deposits.
  • Performs special assignments and projects as assigned.
  • Greets the general public; answers questions in accordance with department policies.
  • Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
