Job Description:

The purpose of the position is to direct, supervise and train inmate work-program crews, oversee the care and custody of all inmates, and ensure the security and safety of the public, staff and inmates. This is accomplished by planning, organizing and directing the safe and secure operations of inmate work crews; providing oversight of inmate custody related to housing, movement, feeding, discipline, programs and activities; training and guiding inmates to develop marketable work skill sets, habits, traits and attitudes; providing appropriate incarceration related information and medical care; and coordinating with the watch commander to ensure that inmates receive appropriate medical treatment, counseling, and discipline. Other duties include completing logs and reports based on activities and observations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains the City’s 5-year Consolidated Plan, Annual Action Plan and Evaluation report required by HUD by preparing the budget for the Housing & Development Division’s use of HOME and CDBG funds, using knowledge of HOME and CDBD rehabilitation program; developing and maintaining environmental reviews in accordance with 24CRF Part 58 for projects funded with federal funds; and creating, monitoring and reporting on the status of federally funded activities to HUD utilizing IDIS.
  • Provides customer service by attending meetings held by various groups and distributing information to the community regarding City programs, policies and services that will benefit the neighborhoods and citizens as well and being a contact for community members; and assisting with resolving complex neighborhood complaints in a timely manner.
  • Manages grants by monitoring various grant databases for potential funding sources that would be beneficial to projects overseen by the Department of Community Development and for nonprofit groups within the City; and collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the activities that are funded by public and private grants.

Requirements:

  • Attends training sessions.
  • Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, with broad knowledge in a general professional, administrative or technical field, and over one year up to and including two years of experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above
