Position Title:TV Legislation Lead

Job Description:

This is an exciting role at the forefront of policy and politics, working to deliver high-profile legislative priorities for Ministers. Reporting to the Legislation Team Lead/Deputy Bill Manager, you will lead aspects of our work to prepare third session legislation to reshape broadcasting and wider Media regulation for the future. The Government recently established an expert panel to advise on the future of Public Service Broadcasting; how broadcasting should be delivered (including the roles of different organisations, platforms and services) as well as the regulatory changes required (such as changes to video-on-demand regulation).

Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with specialist DCMS teams including analysts, strategy, legal advisers and Private Office to make sure work is developed collaboratively and outcomes are robust; and
  • Leading on legislative governance, with considerable exposure to senior leaders, to ensure they understand our work and make decisions promptly and with the right information
  • Contributing more widely to the work of the Television Policy team where possible.
  • Coordinate and produce regular briefing and advice for senior officials and Ministers on media legislation and emerging issues at pace.
  • Supporting the Bill Manager and Deputy Bill Manager to develop the wider team’s Parliamentary and legislative expertise.

Requirements:

  • Strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to confidently brief Ministers and Senior Civil Servants;
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to deliver high quality work in fast paced environments.
  • A proactive approach to your work, and ability to look across a range of priorities and risks beyond those immediately obvious;
  • A track record of delivering politically sensitive work at pace, and managing challenging projects, holding others to account and making sound decisions under pressure;
