Job Description:
The Heartland Fire & Rescue management team includes a Fire Chief, three Division Chiefs, five Battalion Chiefs, a Fire Marshal, a Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Inspectors, an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, and four Administrative Support staff.
Responsibilities:
- Responds to fire and other emergency calls;
- Fights structural, residential, commercial, industrial, chemical, petroleum, vehicle and wildland fires;
- Assists in laying hose and making connections to hydrants;
- Directs extinguishing agents onto fires;
- Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings or to assist individuals from burning structures;
- Makes openings in buildings for ventilation or entrance using various hand and power forcible entry tools;
- Protects property from water or smoke damage by use of salvage covers, smoke ejectors and water removal equipment;
- Rescues individuals from burning buildings, vehicles, aircraft and other hazardous situations;
- Drives and operates an emergency ambulance;
- Administers emergency medical service to individuals suffering impairment of body functions brought on by smoke inhalation, burns, heart attacks, and other physical disorders;
- Operates defibrillation equipment;
Requirements:
- Ability to function effectively in emergency situations in rescue and firefighting;
- Ability to engage in moderate to strenuous physical activity;
- Ability to graduate from a California State certified Fire Training Academy within prescribed department requirements;
- Ability to relate effectively and courteously with other employees and the public;
- Ability to utilize appropriate radio protocol with other fire and emergency medical services personnel;
- Ability to calmly and effectively handle oneself and others in emergency situations;
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing;
