Position Title:Test Engineer, Android Engineering Productivity

Job Description:

Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren’t manual testers — you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google’s massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You’ll have a huge impact on the quality of Google’s growing suite of products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineer scalable tests to create a wide-ranging set of quality signals, many of which will be tests.
  • Build domain expertise for a comprehensive understanding of complex systems.
  • Solve root-cause difficult issues, and use leadership support to transform your conclusions into sustainable multi-team solutions.
  • Create product team relationships and take what you’ve learned back to the product teams. Guide them through what they can to improve their own software and thereby all of Android.
  • Put projects into a self-sustaining state, and take on new challenges as they emerge.

Requirements:

  • Experience with end-to-end automation of web frontends or mobile apps.
  • Experience in test automation and quality engineering.
  • Experience with software or test development in Python or another programming language.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Comfortable engaging with product engineering teams and meeting with, talking to, and influencing diverse engineering teams across Android.
