Position Title: Digital Front End Developer

Job Description:

As a Front-End Developer within the eCommerce team the role is to support the development and implementation of all ‘Group brand’ engaging content for guided selling and solutions including optimisation and functionality developments for the Halfords digital estate, delivering a best-in-class service led user experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive customer engagement with our Brand through Digital Design and implementation across Halfords digital channels with a focus on guided selling and solutions
  • Be a Digital Salesforce expert in Front-End Development Content creating and sharing digital best practice to key business stakeholders
  • Create and develop content and design prototypes into engaging, responsive, optimised digital content (assets and suites) for use across Halfords’ websites and other digital channels, engaging key stakeholders throughout
  • Build strong relationships with Product, UX, IT and Development functions to ensure that content is built and deployed onto site to the highest standards, ensuring familiarity with our existing codebase to avoid on-site issues
  • Ensure all content conforms to industry best practice and is optimised for search, SEO, speed and provides a first-class user experience
  • Support the Digital team to ensure that all online service, campaign, product, pdp and advice designs are delivered on time, to brand/ UX/UI guidelines, with the right messages and content to support, ensuring this meets customer expectations
  • Set and manage approval deadlines & ensure timely, appropriate sign off has been obtained for all work
  • Support the content development roadmap, working closely with UX, UI and designers to ensure that all build work is carried out on time and to brief
  • Act as a QA for the team, performing daily checks on website content – identifying, highlighting and correcting issues as appropriate
  • Produce design requirements for the testing and evaluation of new customer initiatives going through Qubit and the Digital optimisation test program
  • Through the weekly show and tell/ sign off sessions clearly present and communicate all stages of development work to relevant stakeholders at every level, ensuring any blockers to delivery are communicated in a timely manner
  • Continually review and assess best practice, suggesting and promoting changes to optimise the site for efficiency, user experience and SEO
  • Stay up to date with emerging digital trends and culture – attend events to engage with the wider digital creative community and act as an internal ambassador for best practice digital design
  • Build and maintain close relationships with the Marketing, Customer, UX, IT, Product & Development teams, ensuring an open dialogue between all functions and a supportive collaborative relationship
  • Continue to develop cross-functional relationships with the wider customer team
  • Manage the communication of progress between key internal stakeholders, communicating blockers to delivery and potential solutions at the earliest opportunity

Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of HTML (5), CSS (3), JavaScript, jQuery, XML and Web Services, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • A good working knowledge of e-commerce platforms
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills
  • Responsive design
  • UI & UX design principles, including wire framing, mobile first & user-centric design
  • Confidence to plan and delegate tasks
  • Inquisitive and determined
  • Minimum of five years relevant industry experience, ideally in a retail or e-commerce business
  • Ability to switch between priorities, managing several projects at once in a fast paced environment
  • Problem solving skills through understanding of Digital systems and metrics
  • The ability to think creatively and deliver clever concepts
  • The foresight to put themselves in the shoes of the user
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Significant graphic design experience
