Job Description:

The City of Ventura is accepting applications for the position of Lateral Firefighter-Paramedic on a continuous basis.  The Lateral Firefighter-Paramedic performs emergency medical services as a certified paramedic for an assigned engine company and performs various fire service duties including fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials operations, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, public education and related duties. This position must work shifts, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

• Possession of a current and valid California Class C driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• A current California Paramedic license (EMT-P) AND a current CPR certification.
• A current and valid Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification OR Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Providers (PEPP) must be maintained continuously while employed as a Trainee or Firefighter Paramedic.
• A current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be maintained continuously while employed as a Trainee or Firefighter Paramedic.
• Possession of Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) certificate.

Requirements:

• A Ventura County Paramedic Level II certification.  Employees must maintain a valid Level II certification as long as the department employs them in the Firefighter Paramedic classification.
• A current and valid California Class C driver’s license with a Firefighter endorsement.
