Job Description:

The City of Eugene Library, Recreation, & Cultural Services Department’s Aquatic’s Program provides accessible municipal aquatic environments for our community. Aquatics program staff are responsible for maintaining safe practices and conditions in this environment, including supervision of aquatic activities and the participants involved.  We are seeking energetic, safety and service minded individuals to add to our team.  If you are interested in working in a dynamic environment in a challenging job that allows you to further develop your skills, we look forward to your application.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide lifeguarding services for assigned classes and activities, including swimming, fitness, adaptive recreation and outdoor recreation classes and special events; and provides instruction in the proper use of equipment and the facilities.
  • Enforces pool safety rules and regulations; prevents and responds to emergencies; and render first aid including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and administer oxygen as needed.
  • Maintains assigned facilities; provides general custodial duties and reports needed repairs or safety hazards promptly to a higher classification.
  • Interacts with patrons by responding to inquiries and questions; creates and completes reports; and supports administrative staff with registration and front desk duties.
  • Being alert to indicators of child and elder abuse and neglect, and report suspected incidents to a supervisor.
  • Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Communicate effectively and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with people from diverse backgrounds, including patrons and co-workers.
