Job Description:

The Medical Examiner position is responsible for the investigation of sudden, unexpected or violent death within the County within all applicable state laws and County regulations. Responsibilities:

  • Performs examination of human bodies in order to determine the cause and manner of death through varied sources of information as well as the performance of autopsy.
  • Performs and supervises laboratory work.
  • Assists law enforcement agencies in search operations, excavations and recovery of bodies.
  • Examines scenes of death/crime. Provides expert testimony in legal proceedings related to deaths.
  • Provides instruction to nurses, paramedics, law enforcement personnel and others by lecture and demonstration.
  • Assists in the selection, training, and professional development of staff
  • . Represents the County in various activities and meets with the public in both public and private agencies, governmental entities and the general public.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional physician’s experience in a coroner or medical examiner’s office.
  • Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to crime scenes and disasters and to attend meetings.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
