Position Title:Executive Assistant to the Director of Communications

Job Description:

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is the independent safety and economic regulator for Britain’s railways and the independent monitor of Highways England. We are here to ensure the network operates safely, reliably and provides value for taxpayers and customers.The Executive Assistant to the Director of Communications works as part of the Operational Delivery profession, and deals with a wide range of activities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of a busy and highly professional team in a very dynamic environment supporting Britain’s railways and strategic road network.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and organising the DoC’s inbox. effecting triage and prioritisation of issues and, where appropriate, delegating urgent matters to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT);
  • Supporting priority projects, to ensure smooth and effective implementation and delivery;
  • Processing financial documentation, including raising purchase orders, reconciliation of travel and catering invoices, inputting
  • financial data onto the relevant spreadsheets and working with our Oracle system.
  • Identifying and resolving potential issues at an early stage, updating the Director and SLT as appropriate;
  • Managing the DoC’s attendance at Departmental and Cross-Government Boards and Committees, and the actions resulting from them;
  • Effective management of the DoC’s clearance workflow in a timely manner, commissioning internal submissions and briefings where necessary;
  • Liaising with other Personal Assistants across the organisation.
  • Providing co-ordination, project, business management and secretariat support to the Director and the wider Communications directorate as and when required;

  • Previous experience in a Commercial or Procurement role preferred, ideally in the tech space

About Office of Rail and Road (ORR)

We are responsible for ensuring that railway operators comply with health and safety law. We regulate Network Rail’s activities and funding requirements, regulate access to the railway network, license the operators of railway assets and publish rail statistics. We are the competition authority for the railways and we enforce consumer protection law in relation to the railway.
