Job Description:

Under general supervision, analyzes, reviews and interprets water and wastewater residential and commercial construction plans and related documents to ensure compliance of proposed construction with the City’s Engineering Design Standards & Details, MAG standards and details and applicable City codes and ordinances.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs technical review of water and wastewater construction plans for compliance with City Engineering Design Standards and Details, and other applicable City codes and ordinances.
  • Provides customer service and information to the general public in matters relating to water distribution facilities and wastewater collection facilities.
  • Responds to Public Records Requests and Water/Wastewater Inquiries regarding the City’s existing water and wastewater facilities.
  • Approves or denies plans as appropriate, on behalf of the Water Resources Department.
  • Consults with engineers, designers, contractors and homeowners concerning water and wastewater requirements; explains design standards and details.
  • Assists water and wastewater operators with various water and wastewater data requests.
  • Provides coordination with other City departments regarding water and wastewater issues.
  • Maintains records and files associated with requests, inquiries, Will Serve letters, sewer capacity letters, and sewer availability letters to engineering firms, home owners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains plan review status on computer; updates status as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering, building construction, architecture, fire science or related field; or one year experience in plan review, building inspection, fire inspections or construction contracting management or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.  Engineer-in-Training Certificate preferred.
