Position Title:Police Dispatcher I

Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs journey level inspections and/or field investigations to ensure compliance with approved plans, adopted codes, State and Federal regulations and/or local ordinances; performs related work as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs field and office work in the enforcement of the Uniform Housing Code and/or El Cajon Municipal Code;
  • Investigates and resolves complaints of violations of the Uniform Housing Code and/or the El Cajon Municipal Code;
  • Provides information to and educates property owners, tenants, proprietors and the general public through contact in the field, over the counter and telephone;
  • Prepares and maintains reports and detailed records;
  • Maintains computerized database;
  • Keeps records of investigations made and actions taken;
  • Investigates violations of disabled access regulations;
  • Administers and implements the City’s apartment inspection program.

Requirements:

  • No mandatory experience needed.
  • Experience providing information and assistance to the public by means of telephone or radio is desirable.
  • Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • College level coursework in radio communications or law enforcement is desirable.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified Basic Dispatcher Course within twelve months of employment.
