Position Title: Admissions Counselor

Job Description:
The Admissions Counselor is an integral member of the student recruitment team. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: develop and facilitate on and off campus programs for first-year students; provide counseling on the admissions and enrollment process to prospective students and parents; participate in recruitment activities and visits to Colorado high schools and select out-of-state high schools; maintain positive relationships with secondary school personnel; assist in making admission decisions for first-year students; recruit and assist transfer students with admission within primary territory; and assist in the development of communication plans and recruitment publications.
Responsibilities:
- Recruits new students to the University through targeted recruitment activities such as: representing CSU Pueblo at college fairs both in-state and out-of-state; conducting information sessions, application days, and registration days at high schools; and attending high school open houses, award assemblies, etc. as assigned within primary and secondary recruitment territories.
- When required, undertakes travel and territory planning, including use of data to make informed decisions, for successful completion of targeted recruitment.
- Provides information on admission requirements, academic programs, special services, scholarships and financial aid, housing, etc.
- Encourages prospective students to visit campus and apply for admission.
- Provides a personal connection to the University for prospective students by reaching out to students on an individual level (as appropriate) and providing appropriate follow-up to student inquiries.
- Works to create and maintain a positive working relationship with high school counselors within assigned territories.
- Conducts update sessions with counselors; coordinates area counselor receptions; provides counselors with timely information regarding students from their respective schools (admitted student lists, incomplete application lists, scholarship lists, etc.).
- Assists with the first-year student recruitment planning process, including communication plan and publication development, as well as on-campus activities for first-year students and parents.
- Meets with visiting prospective students and parents, including walk-ins, as required.
- Provides counseling on the admissions process, discusses the benefits of an education at CSU Pueblo, and answers specific questions related to the University.
- Contributes to additional functions in the Admissions Office and the Visitor Center, and assists in other aspects for recruitment as required.
- Performs recruitment duties outside of primary recruitment territory as needed.
- Serves on various University and community committees.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willing to plan and execute extensive travel, both in and out of state
- Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to lift and carry materials for recruiting purposes
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in marketing, communications, or a related field
- Graduate of USC/CSU Pueblo
- Personable and approachable to prospective students/parents
- Ability to work independently and self-motivate
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow-up in a timely manner, in the office and while traveling
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Experience in college admissions, visitors center, or comparable positions
