Position Title: Children’s Librarian

Job Description:
Position plans and performs programming for all ages of children and their caregivers, works in a busy downtown library providing services as part of a Children’s Library team. May liaison with area schools and child care facilities to provide literacy activities. Also responsible for some purchasing and collection development for the juvenile collection.
Responsibilities:
- An employee in this class is responsible for providing various professional services in the public library system requiring a knowledge of library principles, practices and techniques.
- Assignments are carried out under the general direction of a professional superior but employees of this class are expected to participate in planning and developing services within their assigned areas or special fields.
- Considerable independent judgment is required in the application of professional library practices and dealing with library patrons.
- Work is evaluated by review of work methods and accomplishments as well as in conferences
Requirements:
- Master of Library Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA accredited library school.
- Must obtain certification of the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.
