Position Title: Landscape Planner

Job Description:

Join us as a Landscape Planner in our conservation team in the city’s Planning service to deliver high quality landscape design and environmentally sustainable development for the city. We work collaboratively with conservation specialists, urban designers to deliver change and improvement, ranging from small scale public realm works to creating new wetlands. To create the best possible landscape design, we regularly consult with City Highways, Trees and Woodlands and other sections of the council to ensure positive outcomes and creative solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring that design projects are progressing and carry out a supervisory role, overseeing contracts being delivered on site.

  • As an expert in this field, you’ll provide technical advice on designs, alongside guidance and support to planning officers, senior management, external stakeholders and agencies.

  • You’ll undertake research, prepare proposals, produce graphic materials, drawings, and sketches, and provide information about costings for each scheme.

  • Liaising and negotiating with highway engineers and contractors, you’ll ensure all construction regulations are implemented and adhered to, and work is being delivered to the highest standard.

  • You’ll regularly be on-site to have meetings regarding progress, issues and make decisions.

Requirements:

  • With experience in implementing landscape design projects, you’ll understand sustainable drainage and recognise the value of biodiversity.

  • You’ll understand technical drawings and use them as a basis for your designs.

  • Using strong leadership and communication skills, you’ll negotiate effectively with key stakeholders to ensure projects are meeting set timelines and remain within budget.

  • As a self-motivated and passionate individual, you’ll command the confidence of others, to persuade and influence decision makers especially where there competing demands.

  • You’ll consider others’ viewpoints and the cost implications of schemes, when making choices.

  • You’ll be able to provide drawn solutions from sketches to presentation drawings, and confidently present ideas to a range of audiences.
