Job Description:

Help support Parks and Recreation in their mission to enhance the quality of life for all through the stewardship of public land and parks and to provide quality recreational experiences. The City of Charlottesville is seeking qualified candidates for Coach I – Aquatics who are highly motivated and who strive for success by demonstrating Charlottesville’s Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains order and discipline by enforcing rules, regulations, and safety precautions;
  • May perform cleaning and general maintenance tasks;
  • May assist in demonstrating instruction techniques, observes athletes to detect and correct mistakes in technique;
  • Assist with or provides oversight and direction of program, event, or center participants. May keep time and/or score for competitive events/activities;
  • May be assigned to lead or supervise a program, class, event, fitness area, activity, or center when a direct supervisor is not present;
  • May perform clerical duties such as administrative tasks, complete enrollment forms, track attendance, and may use a variety of computer software programs;
  • Performs customer service duties such as greet guests and answer questions in person and over the phone, explains Parks and Recreation programs and activities and conducts center tours;
  • Flexible work schedule with early morning, evenings, weekend, and holiday work required;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 months instructing/coaching/aiding experience with a swim program.
  • Applicants must be at least 15 years of age by start date and hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches with First Aide and CPR/AED certification within one month of hire.
  • May require OSHA and Blood Borne Pathogens.
