Job Description:
Under limited direction, the Crime Analyst collects, researches, analyzes, and investigates criminal activities. Provides short and long-term crime and intelligence analysis to law enforcement personnel to identify on-going and emerging crime patterns and trends.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies and analyzes daily criminal activity reports to determine methods of operation, trends, and possible suspects; assists, supports, and collaborates with enforcement personnel to solve or prevent crimes.
- Requests, receives, and analyzes confidential information; organizes large amounts of case related data and prepares illustrative reports for evaluation of investigative information.
- Updates, edits, and maintains computerized crime data files; ensures the submission of the latest information on possible suspects, organized criminals, subversive organizations, and known career criminals.
- Researches and analyzes criminal intelligence data in response to requests for assistance in solving crimes; utilizes and applies various law enforcement, criminal justice, and civilian databases and informational software.
- Prepares and distributes current criminal intelligence information reports to internal staff and other agencies; communicates clearly and effectively to keep personnel apprised of current information including the release status of juvenile and prolific offenders.
- Analyzes internal and external intelligence reports for applicability to law enforcement operations; researches tips that come in from the public and disseminate internally to the appropriate law enforcement official for follow-up.
