Position Title: Senior Crown Prosecutor

Job Description:

To review case files and charging decisions, providing legal advice on cases to be presented in both the magistrates and Crown Courts. In particular the postholder will analyse, review, prepare and present more challenging, serious and sensitive cases in the Magistrates’ Courts including Youth Courts, NGAP Court lists and multi day trials. They will also prepare a wide range of Crown Court cases, and will be expected to have up-to-date knowledge of criminal offences ranging from motoring to murder.

Responsibilities:

  • To demonstrate high levels of advocacy, media handling, written and oral communication skills in relation to all cases for which the postholder is accountable so as to maintain public confidence in the prosecution process.
  • To deal effectively and persuasively with a wide range of people, both within and outside the Service, as part of a multi-skilled team and on an individual basis in order to ensure effective and successful prosecution of cases.
  • To undertake advocacy in relation to the more challenging serious and sensitive cases in the magistrates’ courts including Youth Courts, NGAP court lists and multi-day trials

Requirements:

candidate must have strong communication skills, discussions with the police on evidence requirements and charge. Making the final decision on charging i.e. whether to charge and what the charge will be. To review files for cases to be tried at the Magistrates and Crown courts, apply the Full Code test and confirm the charge.
