Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • The Deputy Public Works Director performs professional, administrative, supervisory work assisting the Public Works Director with the administration of Sustainable Public Infrastructure, General Services Administration, and Sign Shop Divisions.
  • Compliments department leadership by assisting in resolving issues, conflicts, delays, or any other issues the disrupts the workflow in any division.
  • Must be able to think strategically and exercise considerable initiative and independent judgement.  Reports to Department Director and represents the whole Department in his or her absence.
  • Plans administers all aspects of the City’s Sustainable Public Infrastructure, General Services Administration, and Sign Shop Divisions..
  •  Confers with Department Assistant Directors to define capital and operational budget preparation procedures.
  •  Evaluates and recommends project priorities, provides technical oversight for ongoing projects and programs, and intervenes in resolving project delays.  Reviews and approves requests for bids and specifications.
  • Oversees the schedule and financial status of projects and programs under assigned divisions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineer and/or Architecture, from an accredited four year institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as a Licensed Engineer. Must have seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional field engineering experience including design and construction supervision of varied public works projects within the public sector.
  • Public sector experience preferred.
  • Must be registered in the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
