Position Title: Environment Manager

Job Description:

A large part of this role will involve stakeholder engagement both with wider FirstGroup colleagues, suppliers and various industry groups. Collaboration will be needed to mitigate risks and identify opportunities for synergies, efficiencies and innovatio

Responsibilities: 

  • Work to align the approach with best practice from FirstGroup and its Train Operating Companies
    Provide content for internal communications sharing GWR’s progress/achievements towards Net Zero
  • Develop compliant energy and environmental policies
  • Capture Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions and prepare periodic reports as required by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Schedule and accompany auditors on ISO50001 certification audits
  • Submit annual carbon reporting figures to FirstGroup
  • Play an active part in supporting other business functions to implement energy management initiatives, monitoring the potential impact (positive and negative) on energy performance
  • Establish a metering / sub-metering / tenant energy and water metering plan as basis for accurate reporting of energy use to multiple stakeholders, to support legislative responsibilities (e.g. CRC / Heat Networks Regulations)
  • Lead continual improvement of process and procedures in relation to energy efficiency in support of TOC energy reduction targets and wider objectives of FirstGroup carbon strategy
  • Maintain and improve the GWR E2MS Management System across the organisation to maintain ISO 50001
  • Work closely with GWR Procurement team to advise on opportunity in relation to demand management priorities / opportunity presented by new tariffs and market instruments and products: seek new opportunities to improve energy efficiency within our supply chain, ensuring energy efficiency requirements and targets are clearly referenced in contract documents.

Reqirements:

  • Experience in writing compelling business cases to secure funding
  • Experience in identifying and implementing energy reduction measures across a multi-site portfolio
  • Experience in carbon reporting and compiling and submitting data for external verification
  • Relevant energy management experience preferably within a multi-site environment
  • Knowledge of Science Based Targets Initiative and development of Net Zero strategy development and target setting
  • Experience in implementing ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems
