Position Title: Sessional Inclusion Play Worker

Job Description:

It is working with our Activities for All team to promote the use of mainstream activities for families of disabled children in Leeds. You would be joining our bank of staff, be matched to a family and then work to support that young person to join an activity, helping them settle in and upskilling the activity staff until confidence is built for you to withdraw. Sports, dance, drama, gaming, art and crafts there is no limit to types of activities. Responsibilities:

  • Working with Scope’s Activities for All service to offer information and support to universal settings in order for them to meet needs of disabled children.
  • Where appropriate offer individual one to one support to disabled children to access activities of their choice, whilst coaching the group to start taking on the role.
  • Plan and prepare face to face or online meetings with family and child before starting activity to understand child’s needs.
  • Act as a link person between the child’s family the setting
  • Act as a link person between the setting and Activities for All
  • Ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensure all training is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all support is delivered in line with Scope’s policies and procedures and in particular Safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.

Requirements:

  • Gained or working towards (level 3 or above) qualification in Playwork, Health, Social Work, Psychology or another related field.
  • Knowledge of Inclusion policies and procedures
  • Experience of inclusion work with children/young people with challenging behaviour, disabilities and/or complex needs
  • Experience of working with children and young people in a play/leisure environment
  • Good time management and ability to plan own workload and work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as following set procedures and working in conjunction with others
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and child protection
  • Commitment to providing a child-centered service
  • Proven family support / community development skills
  • A pro-active attitude to the development of inclusive leisure opportunities for children and young people
  • Knowledge of facilities/services regarding play provision in Leeds
  • A positive approach to the issue of risk in children’s play
