Position Title:Oracle Database Administrator – Contract

Job Description:

We need someone to start ASAP. This role is fully remote. The office base is one of Manchester, Edinburgh, Worthing, Bristol if you were commutable to that office it would help in the future but not essential.HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers.We are undergoing a major transformation programme, which includes a major investment in digitisation. This means customers can do more for themselves online, in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones therefore we are establishing a team of outstanding people who will build and run these new and improved technology services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting a team of database service engineers including mentoring less experienced engineers in team activities
  • Investigating complex incidents following agreed procedures using appropriate software and tools either in co-operation with other support teams or alone
  • Carrying out routine configuration/installation and recovery processes for databases and related products across all environments.
  • Review and maintain documentation for databases, updates, monitoring, automation, releases and incident resolutions
  • Monitoring work assigned to the database services team enabling delivery to an appropriate level
  • Maintain effective relationships with support teams, development teams, and service owners, providing a high level of customer service
  • Monitor performance, identify, collect and report agreed performance data, improve monitoring capability, and investigate anomalies as necessary
  • Authoring and applying solutions to enact data modifications and database structure changes
  • Supporting patch implementation to databases and servers as required
  • Identifying, applying and testing fix solutions

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of configuration and installation methodology for Oracle and/or MySQL (or equivalent) databases
  • Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimisation
  • Database backup and recovery experience
  • Ability to create, seek and act upon opportunities to obtain and share knowledge
  • Experience using Unix or Linux environments
  • Database development experience (SQL and schema design)
  • Proven experience and competencies utilising Oracle and/or MySQL databases
  • Unix Shell scripting knowledge
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience of source control systems (such as Git)
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies
