Position Title: Lead Technical Architect

Job Description:

A Lead Technical Architect for End User Compute and Collaboration works across multiple projects or teams on problems that require broad architectural thinking. They share the responsibility for establishing the Home Office approach to Technical Architecture and guide projects in using architectural principles, standards and tooling to deliver new systems and services for citizens and Home Office users.

As a Lead Technical Architect, you will assure other services and system quality, making sure the technical work fits into the broader strategy for government. You will be responsible for leading the technical design of systems and services, including detailed plans for integration. You will also explore the benefits of cross-government alignment of systems and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and documenting the proposed technical design for the integration and implementation of any solution, working with and across other areas of DDaT and the business
  • Contributing to the overall technical strategy and road map for the department in your area of expertise
  • Creating optimal technical designs through an iterative process, aligning such factors as the user need within the system requirements, security and organisational objectives
  • Contributing to the development of architectural practice, ensuring a coherent and consistent strategy across cyber, cloud, data centre, storage, network, mobile and the user experience of infrastructure
  • Leading the design and review processes for new solution and services, evidencing the inclusion of ‘Secure by
  • Design” in the technical designs you produce, oversee and approve
  • Presenting recommendations for technologies or improvements to enhance systems to support project goals clearly to senior management, based on knowledge of IT and analysis of systems’ needs

Requirements:

  • An inquisitive, strategic mindset with the ability to challenge themselves and their team in order to innovate and shape the delivery environment to enable effective and efficient delivery
  • First class commercial acumen. Sophisticated approach to high value commercial and supplier management within the context of technology change. Able to establish and maximise effective working relationships with suppliers to stimulate innovation and guarantee successful delivery whilst delivering value for money
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and enthuse people across the organisation.
  • Strong evidence of having successfully managed major (GMPP or equivalent level) ICT delivery programmes utilising iterative, digital delivery methodologies, with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Senior technology leader with a strategic, enterprise-wide view and inspiring, coherent and inclusive leadership style able to establish a culture of technical excellence and innovative solution design whilst leading internal and external delivery teams
  • Awareness of Operational Risk in a relevant technology environment: able to identify, measure and mitigate risk relating to business-critical IT services and systems
