Position Title:Infographic Designer

Job Description:

The Telegraph is looking for an analytically minded front-end developer to help manage improvements in our analytics and personalisation infrastructure through Adobe Launch. You’ll help to improve the data that we capture, the analysis we drive and the personalisation we can produce through advancing our use of Adobe Launch and AEP products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and illustrate graphic components such as; charts, diagrams, maps, graphics and design with clarity and to a high standard
  • Analyse and edit information to form compelling visual narratives
  • Combine good typography and a considered design practice to create engaging information graphics and data visualisations
  • Contribute ideas and creative input into the production of visual journalism at The Telegraph
  • Output work for both The Telegraph’s print and digital platforms
  • Collaborate with Journalists, Researchers, Editors, Designers and Developers from across the Newsroom
  • Establish greater consistency by helping to develop better work methods
  • Take responsibility for the quality of your work, producing graphics to deadline that can vary from daily tasks upto much longer term projects
  • Capturing any creative requirements from daily newsroom conferences and planning sessions, relaying briefs to the rest of the team
  • Working shifts within a seven day rota, which will include late shifts and weekend working.
  • Constantly aim to develop your craft, maintaining an interest in emerging formats and trending themes within visual journalism

Requirements:

  • Proven ability in producing compelling and creative visual journalism
  • A portfolio that displays attributes that are listed above in the ‘Job responsibilities’
  • Good understanding and practice of core graphic design principles; colour, geometry, typography, depth, image and composition
  • Proficient with the latest graphics software: Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign (After effects and GIS software would be an added bonus)
  • To have a keen interest in developing your digital skill set
  • Possesses an understanding and be able to work with core development languages and digital formats; HTML, CSS, Javascript (Experience in programming for data visualisation would also be an added bonus)
  • Be able to interpret briefs and handle research data effectively, formatting in spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Good communication and collaborative methods, with an eager sense to contribute
  • Proactive planning and efficient time management, able to take initiative when required
  • Pursue an active interest in the current affairs and journalism platforms
