Position Title: Senior Environment Specialist

Job Description:

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Environmental Specialist to join our team based in Bedford and Cambridge. As a Senior Environmental Specialist, you will lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of environmental needs. You will develop these needs into environmental schemes You will need to provide specialism and technical expertise and engage with both internal and external stakeholders to provide sound advice and meet deliverables in projects. You will develop and deliver a programme of asset led inspections and surveys for key environmental sites across the East Region.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Advice and input into the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, considering new techniques, materials, feasibility, and costs .
  • Providing ecological and landscape advice to internal stakeholders.
  • To oversee and advise on the development of technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work.
  • Identify and commission environmental studies and survey works.
  • Collaborate with engineering colleagues to ensure forward programme plans reflect asset needs and priorities, environmental legislation, business priorities and strategies.
  • Manage and carry out ecological and landscape surveys and monitor condition of sites and identify early programme needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience in working within budgets including the creation of a budget for scheme development.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Good ecological skills and experience delivering a programme of surveys.
  • Experience of project/programme delivery.
  • Experience in environmental matters aligned to highway construction and delivery methods is preferred.
  • Evidence of excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and standards. 
  • Membership of professional body, CIEEM or IEMA or similar.
