Responsibilities:

  • Coral Gables operates under a commission/manager form of government and is well known for its active and involved citizenry.
  • The Neighborhood Safety Aide performs responsible work in the prevention of crime, promotion of safety and fostering a positive working relationship between the community and the police department.
  • This position performs a variety of field related activities related to non-violent aspects of law enforcement.
  • This position may be required to issue non-moving citations at times.
  • The Neighborhood Safety Aide does not have arrest powers, is not authorized to carry firearms or less-than-lethal weapons and does not enforce criminal laws, does not respond to emergency calls or calls where the potential for injury exists.
  • The duties inherit in this position may require shift work, weekends and holidays, flexible hours.
  • The position also requires working outdoors within the Coral Gables neighborhood and interaction with residents.
  • Work assignments are given orally and in writing and performed under the direction of a Police Sergeant or designee.

Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Qualifications: Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and a Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience or other experience similar in nature to the duties of this job.
  • Moral Character: An applicant, who, at any time during the employment application process, demonstrates dishonesty, withholds requested information (omissions), or whose background investigation reveals derogatory information will be disqualified.
  • Drug usage: The City of Coral Gables Police Department has a strict policy regarding past and present drug usage.   Applicants must not have used any illegal substance, including prescription drugs without a prescription. The use of marijuana may be acceptable only if it was experimental in nature.
  • Other disqualifying factors include but are not limited to – Financial/credit irresponsibility, Immoral/unethical conduct, and Criminal conduct.
