Position Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description:
This class is the second level in a nine-level Maintenance and Operations Series devoted to providing repair, waste removal, maintenance and equipment operation for an assigned city maintenance, waste disposal or operational function. Incumbents provide semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance based on assignment to any City department or maintenance function. Work may include repairing and maintaining buildings and/or grounds; performing maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and parts; operating assigned equipment, typically of a smaller variety involved in grounds maintenance such as mowers, blowers, weed-eaters; maintaining cleanliness of work area, tools and equipment; and following safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Job duties include, but are not limited to: Driving all types of haul vehicles including flat bed and dump trucks, and a variety of other construction equipment;
- driving and operating special function equipment such as leaf collection trucks (both automated and walk behind), and snow and ice removal equipment;
- participating in ground work using manual and power tools to perform such duties as cleaning catch basins and storm drains, ditch maintenance, pipe repair and maintenance; and general street maintenance related activities.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- May be required to work in confined spaces such as underground drainage structures.
- This position will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment.
- Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire (Required).
- May be required to obtain tanker endorsement.
- This position is required to operate dump trucks and other equipment on a daily basis.
- At least one year experience in operating various types of heavy equipment including backhoe, excavator, and front end loader.
