Position Title:Hazardous Area Electrical Engineer

Job Description:

Thames Water is in the process of enhancing its in-house DSEAR (Dangerous Substances & Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) capability. The company has over 300 sewage treatment works and 3000 waste pumping stations with explosion protected equipment installed and maintained. Responsibilities:

  • Supporting development of ATEX asset management system by collecting asset data from all sites to build ATEX registers and Termination registers.
  • Co-ordinating the production of Intrinsically Safe Loop Drawing and Descriptive System Documents.
  • Assessing solutions for Non-compliance corrective actions and validate technical information and specifications.
  • Providing feedback to the work stream continuous improvement process.
  • Supporting Capital Delivery projects – Act as a gatekeeper for new project DSEAR documentation.
  • Maintaining the document management system and ensuring the latest versions of the documents are available to stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Have an excellent understanding of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR), associated standards and approved Codes of Practice, and knowledge of electrical equipment for use in potentially flammable atmospheres.
  • Have proven experience in Hazardous Area Inspections or Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Services.
  • Have experience in site surveying, working in an explosion safety engineering environment, applying various methods of hazard analysis.
  • Be qualified in CompEx 01-04, 05-06, CompEx 12 is a plus.
  • Have excellent communication and developed relationship skills so that highly technical information can be communicated in a clear and concise manner.
  • Have a robust understanding of technical and process safety related investigations and documentation such as Engineering Risk Assessment/Safety Reviews, Functional Design Specifications, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and Electrical/Loop drawings.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft 365 tools in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Travel within Thames Water’s region for site surveys and audits will be required so a full driving licence is needed.
