Responsibilities:

  • Patrols housing units to provide care, custody, and control of inmates
  • Provides security of inmates, civilians, and staff during visitation, physical recreation, and other inmate movements
  • Participates in investigating inmate disciplinary infractions, which includes collecting and preserving evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and securing crime scenes
  • Prepares detailed and accurate reports, records, statistics, and/or logs on daily activities
  • Responds to emergency situations and renders emergency assistance at accidents and/or catastrophic situations
  • Serves criminal warrants and/or other legal documents
  • Transports inmates, suspects, and/or applicable individuals to appropriate facilities and/or locations
  • Attends court to testify in trials and/or participate in depositions

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), minimum age of 18, and one year of experience performing work as a certified corrections officer/detention deputy; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
  • Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commission (CJSTC) certification
  • Florida Department Law Enforcement (FDLE) certification
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from state of residence
