Job Description:

The Carson City Fire Department is an outstanding fire department that provides all-risk EMS and firefighting services to the community. This posting is to fill a current open position as well as to create a six month list from the date of closing for future openings.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with elected officials, public, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Routinely inspects equipment for function and cleanliness; orders additional or replacement inventory when needed.
  • Perform medical aid at the basic Emergency Medical Technician level.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; addresses and resolves complaints when presented.
  • Uses radio and/or phone to communicate and receive information in the vehicle on patient transfers or status.
  • Response to 911 dispatched BLS calls.
  • Assist in weighing patients before transfer to facility bed.
  • Assists passengers on and off vehicle and provides assistance in carrying the passenger’s personal belongings.
  • Performs daily vehicle inspections to include basic vehicle checks and minor maintenance; recommends and monitors service repairs when necessary.
  • Complete appropriate documentation, including but not limited to, run logs and accurate patient reports.
  • Answers questions and provides information to patients as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status.
  • Assist patient in getting dressed and moving between bed and gurney.
  • Safely and efficiently transports BLS patients and/or passengers from one location to another by way of ambulance.
  • Assist paramedics with administering medical aid at medical emergencies; apply techniques for patient care; utilize immobilization techniques to stabilize patients.
  • Routinely wash and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle, including fueling the vehicle.

Requirements:

  • Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic life support, First Aid, CPR and AED procedures, along with PPE garments.
  • Proper technique to move patients from bed to gurney.
  • Streets and roads located within the City and surrounding areas.
  • Proper radio communication technique.
  • Department policies and procedures.
  • Laws, rules and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada.
