Position Title:Communications Director

Job Description:

The Communications Director makes critical and sensitive decisions within the communications and public information program area. This position utilizes extensive professional experience in order to exercise independent judgement in planning and directing communications strategy and initiatives. The Communications Director identifies and recommends solutions at the organizational level, makes organizational policy recommendations, and is accountable for the work carried out by the communications team.

Responsibilities:

  • Build trust and confidence with our community and within our organization by communicating timely and clear information related to key initiatives and issues as they arise.
  • Lead an internal CMO communications team as well as a citywide Public Information Team, comprised of communications professionals from each department, to create a coordinated, cohesive approach to addressing both internal and external information needs.
  • Develop relationships with local media to cover emerging media requests regarding key issues, proactively pitches stories and fosters community relations and public engagement on a variety of priority topics.
  • Play a key role in developing strategies around imagining, communicating, creating and executing outreach strategies for large scale initiatives.
  • Empower team members by creating a creative, respectful, and inclusive work environment and supporting growth and development through coaching, mentoring, and providing challenging opportunities.
  • Foster wellbeing and resiliency while identifying and growing strengths and building a strong network of support.

Requirements:

  • You must be in a regular (full-time, part-time) position and meet the minimum qualifications for the AIC position.
  • Temporary and Limited Duration employees are not eligible to apply for an AIC position. They may apply for the LD option.
  • If you are on probation, it may impact supervisory approval to apply for this opportunity.
  • You must receive permission from your supervisor to apply.
  • This full-time AIC assignment is projected to last 12 to 18 months with the option to extend per business need.   The assignment is temporary; at the end of the assignment you will return to your regular position.
