Position Title: FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

Job Description:

The Building Construction Coordinator prepares, schedules, coordinates and manages the development of construction, repair, and maintenance of structures such as constructing or relocating walls while adhering to required codes, ordinances and specifications. The incumbent prepares job cost analysis for labor and materials used on those projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and performs the work of highly skilled  building construction crew and volunteer laborers on the job site involved in replacing windows, doors, roofing, minor electrical work, insulating attics, carpentry repairs, plumbing and other highly skilled, relatable maintenance work;
  • Reviews and implements work orders;
  • Prepares time schedules and commits resources to oversee the job from start to completion;
  • Prepares job cost estimates and specification on all renovation projects (oversees repair and
    renovation for the repair of walls, doors and cabinets throughout the County);
  • Designs and builds custom cabinets when no plans or specifications are available. Builds cabinets and other related carpentry items to exact specifications;
  • Creates evacuation plans, produces floor plan drawings, and determines cubicle layouts;
  • Modifies workspaces to accommodate disabled employees, ramps have the right grading, renovations are done in compliance, etc;
  • Monitors materials and tools inventory in the shop and on the job site;
  • Measures and calculates projects to ensure accuracy of design;
  • Researches project costs, submits budget numbers for projects, requisitions for quotes and enter receivers;
  • Keeps documented records on all projects including the list of materials, drawings, time schedules and actual cost;
  • Utilizes County resources to lower the overall cost of all the projects when deemed feasible (e.g., utilization of work detail program);
  • Performs preventive maintenance to various buildings and equipment;
  • Ensures ADA compliance is met;
  • Provides on-the-job training for crewmembers and volunteers;
  • Assigns and reviews work;
  • Provides instruction on, and monitors safe operations of equipment;
  • Performs a variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;
  • Performs remodeling of buildings and offices; participates in the initial design process; installs drywall, ceilings, baseboards; removes and installs tile; assembles and disassembles office cubicles;
  • Installs and repairs equipment and performs related work determined by work orders or project working on;
  • Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and
  • Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
  • As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. AND five (5) years of skilled carpentry experience or residential construction management, with three (3) years experience performing duties in multiple trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical) and experience in energy conservation techniques, including one (1) year of lead level experience;
  • Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
