Position Title: FINANCIAL ANALYST III

Job Description:

The City of Houston’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCDD) seeks to create a city in which every resident has an affordable home in a community where they can thrive. Partnering with non-profit, governmental, and local entities, HCDD seeks to strengthen Houston’s neighborhoods, provide true housing choice and execute the Mayor’s vision for One Houston with complete communities throughout. Since Hurricane Harvey, HCDD is managing more than one billion dollars that are dedicated to helping low and moderate-income families recover.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain monthly forecast models by collecting projection numbers from all the program areas within the department and displaying this in financial dashboards for meetings that track spending
  • Monitor personnel and other departmental budgets versus actual costs
  • Responsible for monthly Budget versus Actual for all sources of grants and funds
  • Manipulate large data sets for preparation of forecasting and trend analysis through interactive dashboards
  • Assist with SAP Data extract, transform and load for reporting on all funding sources
  • Assist with reporting requirements from Program Areas and prepare data for business use by creating the layout and necessary analytics
  • Query and execute formulas to prepare data in a suitable format for visualization in Power BI
  • Assist with data integrations and interoperability between disparate data warehouses and assemble large/complex sets for internal consumption from disconnected data sets and third-party systems.
  • Perform deep dive analysis to answer critical business questions. This could entail anything from critical thinking skills to expert analysis in excel and Power BI
  • Maintain mapping to support reporting of all grants/funds
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements:

    • Experience cannot be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
    • A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement.
