Position Title: Engineer Application Operations

Job Description:

The Operations and Monitoring guild is primarily responsible for the running of batch processing for VAT, Trade Stats and accounting processing which run on Helmsman automated scheduling software on Fujitsu’s Virtual Machine Environment (VME) Operating System.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring batch processing is setup and run, in accordance with timetabled schedule.
  • Deal with any mainframe related requests, such as code releases, file access and any other ad hoc requests.
  • Ensure that all process failures and incidents are resolved and documented.
  • Ensure that service level agreements are adhered to in line with agreed timings.
  • Ensure that monitoring duties are carried out, this includes timely reporting and incident raising for alerts.
  • To build knowledge and capability on the tools that we use to ensure that a proactive approach can be maintained for the services we are responsible for.

Requirements:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to apply logical and lateral thinking.
  • Proven team working ability.
  • Demonstrable IT experience and skills.
  • Proven ability to self-learn.
  • Self-motivated and a keen learner.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and use of monitoring tools e.g. Opsview, Nagios or AppDynamics
  • Knowledge and use Unix/Linux, preferably red hat enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.7
  • Knowledge and use of VME and system control language (SCL)
  • Knowledge and use of the HELMSMAN scheduler tool for VME
