Position Title: Head of Heathrow Operations

Job Description:

As the Regional Director you will be responsible for all aspects of Border Force’s operations at Heathrow, delivered through 3 Deputy Director led commands.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of around 1,400 staff with a budget of £82m.
  • Building effective relationships with Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL), ensuring that the commercial needs of the airport are supported without compromising the core security mission. Additional relationships include; with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic.
  • Being an exemplar of Border Force and the Senior Civil Service values, including the importance of political impartiality.
  • Driving forward a portfolio of change projects to ensure that Border Force can continue to raise productivity, whilst improving security through; improved ePassport Gates, infrastructure, training, automation and workforce reform.

Requirements:

  • An understanding of Border Force’s role and of the operational, political and commercial environment in which it operates.
  • Highly developed communications skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas and options in written communications, as well as to articulate them orally to Senior Managers and frontline staff alike.
  • Comfortable working in a high-profile environment.
  • The ability to actively and critically engage with and listen to partners and stakeholders involved in delivery, as well as to set strategic direction.
  • Operational experience at a similar scale and/or complexity, understanding the key levers for delivery against objectives from budgetary discipline to workforce design.
  • A strong influencer, collegiate in approach and able to forge effective strategic partnerships.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working across boundaries to deliver on a challenging agenda.
  • The ability to identify new ways of working and to deliver decisive change in a complex often highly bureaucratic environment.
