Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews fees and charges for recreation programs to ensure fee levels are set in accordance with
  • policy and recommends fee changes, if required.
  • Assesses community needs and trends; projects future demographic changes and resulting needs; develops long range strategies based upon these changes;
  • Confers with other departments, divisions, public officials, citizens and public/community-based organizations regarding recreation and human services issues; makes presentations on recreation projects, programs and activities; receives and investigates complaints from citizens, public officials, and civic organizations and recommends appropriate action; represents the City with various outside agencies and community groups;
  • Performs required duties under the City’s disaster response plan;
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures and long-term planning; evaluates programs for effectiveness and community support; develops and implements enhancements;
  • Prepares program budgets; assists in budget implementation; participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies, administers the approved budget; monitors daily financial activity; identifies funding needs and resources for various programs and services;
  • Supervises, selects, trains and evaluates staff and volunteers; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures and recommends discipline as necessary;
  • Directs and controls operations and maintenance programs at recreational areas and facilities;
  • Coordinates community events including planning, public outreach, political interface, etc.; and
  • Promotes recreation and human services programs and activities; prepares flyers, press releases, brochures and other promotional materials;
  • Manages, directs and oversees daily operations of department programs and activities; coordinates the volunteer programs;
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with county staff, departments, and funders;
  • Develops an organized framework for implementing local initiatives in social welfare problem solving and ensures the proper delivery of human services in the community focused on homelessness, mental health, and food insecurity using a broad array of resources; promotes public/private partnership and collaborative initiatives in human services delivery systems;
  • Assists in providing staff support to the Commissions under the oversight of the department and other assigned boards and commissions; prepares agendas and minutes and assists on various projects;
  • Conducts first-level staff training as appropriate, ensures compliance with safety regulations included in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program; corrects and reports safety concerns to supervisor, departmental safety coordinator or their designated safety resource professional;
