Position Title:Light Fleet Maintenance

Job Description:
Under direct supervision, is responsible for performing a variety of support duties for the maintenance of County vehicles; performs basic routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; services tires, installs and removes special equipment and assists mechanics; and performs related duties as required
Responsibilities:
- Dismounts, repairs or replaces and mounts vehicle tires including riding lawn mower tires
- Balances tires on computer balancer
- Installs and removes all emergency equipment on police cars such as sirens, emergency lights, radar units, video cameras, telephones, interior cages, push bumpers and computers/M.D.T. (Mobile Data Transmitters)
- Installs and removes accessory equipment including, trailer hitches and electrical connections, vehicle steps and interior cages
- Installs and removes organizational markings/graphics (Decals)
- Drives County vehicles to different destinations as necessary
- Replaces brake pads and rotors, starters, alternators, batteries, spark plugs, and belts
- Repairs and maintains fuel systems on alternative fuel vehicles (Propane)
- Changes oil and filters and lubricates vehicles
- Repairs small engine equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, trimmers and riding and walk behind lawn mowers
- Assists mechanics in different tasks
- Performs related duties as required
Requirements:
- Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and one (1) year experience working in an automotive shop including dismounting, mounting, and repairing of tires; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of tire changing equipment; knowledge of tire patching and repair of flat tires; knowledge in the use of computerized tire balancer; knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical and repair principles.
- Skill in dismounting and mounting tires
- Ability to work with various mechanical tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
