Position Title: Operational Data Analyst

Job Description:

The MI team provide a bespoke array of management information, delivered in various formats to our customers. This management information & business intelligence we produce is used by managers of all levels for delivery of the business both internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide analysis for the Civilian Personnel staff and other stakeholders as required, monitoring data and requirements with staff as required by the business.
  • Manage changing demand within the MI team. Produce MI dashboards and analysis using the appropriate systems.
  • Identify, collect and migrate data to / from a range of internal and external systems
  • Perform database queries across multiple tables to extract data for analysis.
  • Maintenance of existing Dashboards and scheduled returns, including administration of associated databases.
  • Prepare and staff Technical Instructions. Support and maintain designated systems, diagnosing and repairing faults. Provide advice and guidance to users.
  • Responsible for the design and writing of business processes to support proposed solutions for projects and/or initiatives within Programmes. Maintain task guidance ensuring changes are recorded appropriately
  • Use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
  • Assist with data quality, checking and cleansing
  • Summarise, present and make recommendations from the results of data analysis
  • Clearly define stakeholder requirements for data analysis
  • Develop skills in logical and creative thinking
  • Be willing to develop yourself/staff to meet future organisational requirements. This may include workshops and courses, interviewing skills and internal applications used within DBS.

Requirements:

  • Seven Knowledge Modules – Blended learning approach plus a challenge for each module
  • Summative Portfolio – Showcases your work to demonstrate the skills and behaviours you’ve learnt and practically applied in the workplace whilst on the programme
  • Synoptic Project – A holistic assessment during which you will take a business and technical brief and build a finished product. This could include working on a complex set of data and using various tools to analyse this and report back. The synoptic project takes place in the classroom, typically over 1 week
  • Interview – An external end point assessment interview, covering a review of the portfolio, a presentation and synoptic project. The interview is an hour long and assesses whether you have successfully met the learning requirements of the programme
