Position Title:Adaptive Assistant

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Adaptive and Inclusive Assistant will provide administrative support to the Recreation Supervisors, provides on-site program support for the community center, special population and day camp programming to ensure quality programs and services are delivered. Personal conduct, attitude and leadership must meet the highest of standards.  Must be available various shifts including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and assists with programs such as: Special Olympics, Courage Leagues Sports, Senior Activity Center, Sports and Wellness programs and the Minnie Fridge.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Understanding and following written and oral instructions
  • Assist participants, respond to questions and concerns.
  • Open, close and secure program facilities including a walk-through of all areas.
  • Ensure the City of Davenport Parks and Recreations’ rules, regulations, policies and procedures are enforced and in place.
  • Evaluate each session upon completion of the program to determine action necessary to improve upon each program and present this information to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assess program facilities and report potential hazards, inadequate equipment, etc. to the Recreation Supervisor for the purpose of implementing and/or assisting in making modifications or recommendations that ensures the safety of the program facilities.
  • Inform supervisor of problems and concerns regarding needed equipment/supplies, facilities, renters and participants.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, assist with rentals, and updating programming schedules for catalog and RecPro.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work during program hours: weekdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must pass a background check and physical as prescribed by the City
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices, department policies and procedures
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees, department personnel and the public, and to deal with them in courteous and tactful manner
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
