Position Title: Court Security Officer

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining order and performing security screening at the Municipal Court, contributing to productive and efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains order and security in the Municipal Court, screening people entering the court for weapons, explosives, and/or contraband; subdues and controls individuals as necessary.
  • Responds appropriately to unruly individuals within the court facility and in the vicinity.
  • Conducts scheduled and random security inspections; notifies court staff of potentially dangerous individuals.
  • Reports and records all incidents that threaten security.
  • Administers all electronic home monitoring and alcohol monitoring devices; orders appropriate monitoring devices; installs and tests devices with defendants.
  • Oversees monitoring devices and defendant compliance; responds to defendant requests and vendor notifications as required; keeps electronic records and file reports.
  • Administers oral saliva drug screening on individuals.
  • Researches special security projects as assigned.
  • Takes and maintains custody of in-court commitments and arranges for the transfer of prisoners between the Municipal Court, corrections facility, and/or other jurisdictions.
  • Assists and directs visitors to courtrooms, telephones, and restrooms; aids public in emergency situations.
  • Prepares courtroom and facilities for operations, including opening and closing court.
  • Inspects the Municipal Court facility, equipment and grounds to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs and unsafe working conditions; corrects and/or reports hazards as appropriate.
  • Responds to fire alarms, bomb threats and other safety concerns and assists with the building evacuations during emergencies and drills.
  • Completes incident and police reports and related paperwork, as needed and required.
  • Provides security training for staff as needed; serves on City Safety Committee; maintains emergency supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains timely and regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field
  • at least two years of experience as a city, county, state, tribal, military or federal law enforcement officer
  • any combination of experience, education and training that would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.
  • Completion of a reserve academy, or tribal, state or federal police academy is preferred.
