Job Description:

The Employment List generated from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future vacancies while the List remains active.  Employment Lists shall remain in effect for one year, unless terminated or exhausted.

Responsibilities:

  • Collects fees at fee-based events, programs and activities;
  • Prepares post program and activity information, schedules and other reports; and
  • Shows available pool space/locations to potential renters; inspects rental locations prior to and at the conclusion of rentals;
  • Works with various organizations and groups in implementing assigned programs;
  • Performs required duties under the City’s disaster response plan;
  • Leads, oversees and participates in the activities of participants in various aquatic programs, events and activities;
  • Maintains pool attendance, safety, and swim lesson report cards.
  • Officiates, organizes and coordinates aquatic activities including swim lessons, water aerobics classes, recreational swims and events;
  • Assembles supplies; sets up tables and chairs needed for various programs; performs all related event set-ups; sets up a variety of pool equipment and follows pool opening/closing procedures;
  • Instructs swimming and water safety classes and serves as lifeguard;
  • Attends to minor needs and problems that may occur in the program or activity during the period of assignment; facilitates resolution or enlists assistance from senior pool staff;
  • Ensures aquatic facilities and pool equipment are available and maintained in a safe and satisfactory fashion;
  • Follows all pool safety rules and Recreation and Human Services Department protocols included in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program; takes appropriate action as required to identify and correct safety hazards and report safety concerns to his/her supervisor;
  • Maintains discipline at assigned facility; enforces rules and regulations governing assigned programs; addresses disciplinary/behavior concerns of youth participants with parents/guardians; secures aquatic facilities at conclusion of events;
  • Performs pool attendant and facility caretaker tasks; ensures proper use of facilities and restores facilities to original condition upon completion of aquatic function; cleans, removes debris, and restores to prior set-up;
  • Maintains order at aquatic sites; administers first aid and/or lifeguard rescue skills as needed; completes incident/accident reports as appropriate; reports identified safety hazards;
  • Provides recommendations for special aquatic programs and events;

Requirements:

  • Communicate orally and maintain good relations with the public; and
  • Develop interest and encourage participation in assigned aquatic activity;
  • Work independently and assume responsibility for a task;
  • Deal effectively and courteously with participants of various ages;
  • Apply the principles of First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation;
  • Keep and maintain various records.
